The List of Greatness - 1971

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Life gets in the way of super fun basketball stats sometimes. (Sigh...) But here's our first new List of Greatness entry under the new criteria where every player gets full credit for the win shares during their entire career, rather than just from 1952 forward. As a result, there probably won't be much continuity between this post and the 1970 post. I may go back and update the older posts eventually, but I'd like to just progress forward and get all the years done first and then go from there. Anyway, here are the numbers, with all stats through the 1971 season.

  1. So Kareem is sixth (which I think wouldn't merit him a win the next year, even though he was MVP), and although Hagan is next in line, Jerry Lucas may, may, MAY, jump him (depending on his win shares the next year, and they also lost the finals......). SO in '73 Kareem is two in MVP,not to mention 20+ win shares but a semis loss. WHo knows, maybe Frazier will jump Hagan in '73 or '74, and we can't forget Cowens and White who were champs in '74. But Hagan will make it soon most likely anyway. But lookig at other names, JOe Fulks should be on the list (ok, maybe not, he played only a few years....). Great job, keep it up.....
